The population of the Sverdlovsk region is 4,3 million people, 3,67 million from them live in cities.  The demographic situation in the region has remained stable over the past ten years.  In terms of population, the region ranks the fifth place in Russia.

The number of employable population in the Sverdlovsk region is 2,2 million.  The average monthly salary in 2018 in the region was 36,7 thousand rubles (plus 8,7% by 2017).

According to HeadHunter, the increase in vacancies over the past year was 19%, the resume growth was 23%.  The competition is 5 people for 1 vacancy - a moderate level in favor of the employer.

In the Sverdlovsk region there are over 1,8 thousand kindergartens. Until 2025, the development of a network of schools, which today has 1057 organizations will be one of the priorities. It will be possible to transfer all Sverdlovsk students to study in one shift.

Sverdlovsk region in terms of scientific and staff potential takes a leading place in Russia. Two large scientific organizations work in the region: the Ural Federal University and the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

In the region there are:

24 scientific institutions subordinate to the Ural Territorial Administration of the Federal Agency for Scientific Organizations (FASO);

22 Institute of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences;

110 research institutes;

29 universities, in which more than 120 thousand students study (37% of all students in the Urals Federal District);

more than 40 colleges and technical schools that train specialists in the most popular fields.

Every year representatives of the Sverdlovsk region participate in the WorldSkills National Championship, representing Russia at the international level.  Since 2017 Ekaterinburg has become the capital of the WorldSkills Hi-Tech National Championship.  In 2018 more than 600 students of professional educational organizations participated in professional skill competitions.

Sverdlovsk region is one of the most high-tech Russian regions. More than 21 thousand people do research. Over the past three years the share of innovatively active organizations in the region has increased from 8,5% to 9,6%, goods, work and services - from 7,3% to 10,3%.

The R&D costs of Sverdlovsk companies in 2017 was 29,4 billion rubles (on average, over the past seven years, they have been growing by 14%). According to this number, the region ranks the fifth place in the country.

In 2017 organizations in the Sverdlovsk Region filed 341 patent applications (the seventh result in the country), in 2018 they received 890 patents (the sixth place in Russia).

Healthcare

In 2018, life expectancy in the Sverdlovsk region reached its historical maximum, increasing by 0,1 years, and amounted to 71,3 years. In order to develop health care in 2019, regional projects were developed within the framework of the national projects "health Care" and "Demographics".

In January-November 2019, the death rate in the Sverdlovsk region decreased by 1,8% compared to the same period in 2018.

There are 27 sorting and evacuation helipads in the region, including 9 at highway points. The number of flights is growing every year. In January-October 2019, 815 flights were performed, 770 patients were evacuated, 173 of them were children.

Within the framework of the regional project "Development of the primary health care system" in the Sverdlovsk region, the work of 245 polyclinics belonging to hospital institutions, 241 general medical practices and 556 paramedic-midwifery points is being improved.

15 modular FAPs were transferred to health care institutions in the Sverdlovsk region. In addition to the 31 existing mobile FAP, 9 more were purchased in 2019. The fleet of mobile medical complexes increased in 2019 by 6 mobile dental offices and 2 mobile ophthalmological offices. In total, mobile and modular FAP cover 286 localities in the Sverdlovsk region. The number of residents of the region receiving medical care on mobile FAP in 2019 was 27 842 people.

About 700 thousand people undergo medical examination every year.

In 2019, health informatization will continue in the Sverdlovsk region. In 2019, 2,782 automated workplaces were purchased for medical workers, 162 video terminals for resuscitation and anesthesia departments of medical organizations, and 112 tablets for emergency medical teams.

478 thousand people are included in the registers of citizens who have the right to receive medicines for free and with a 50% discount.64% of them are provided with medicines from the regional budget and 36% from the federal budget.

The regional project "Fight against cardiovascular diseases" in the region organized 22 primary vascular departments and 1 regional vascular center. In the framework of the regional program "Fight against cancer in the Sverdlovsk region", a reference center for radiation diagnostics is planned to be opened in 2020. In December 2019, 2 centers were opened in Verkhnyaya Pyshma and Asbest. In 2020, centers will be opened in Nizhny Tagil, Kamensk-Uralsky, and 2 centers in Ekaterinburg.
